Sports physiotherapy
When do you go to the sports physiotherapist?
The sports physiotherapist plays an important role in prevention, education, and advice for anyone who wants to start exercising or who practices sports as a hobby or profession. He or she treats clients who wish to return to work and/or resume sports after illness or injury, and guides and advises experienced athletes who want to practice their sport at a high level. In their practice, the sports physiotherapist also sees other (vulnerable) target groups, such as the elderly and children, for whom sport is used as part of the therapy.
Most complaints seen by a sports physiotherapist involve injuries to the knee, ankle, and shoulder. The therapy focuses not only on the recovery of the affected joints but can also be intended to train precisely those body parts that can still bear weight.
What is the difference between a general physiotherapist and a sports physiotherapist?
A sports physiotherapist has completed an additional Master's program in Sports Injuries following their Physiotherapy degree. The examination and treatment of injuries and orthopedic complaints, as well as treatment following an accident, are central to their work.
With which other healthcare providers does a sports physiotherapist collaborate?
There is intensive collaboration with the general practitioners of the Haarlemmermeer health centers, with various specialists from the sports clinic at the Spaarne Gasthuis, the Sports and Exercise Clinic (in Haarlem and Hoofddorp), and the Podiatry Center Haarlemmermeer. In addition, the Sports Physiotherapist is a member of the Trauma Network.
