Medical Taping

The Medical Taping concept is a form of treatment within physiotherapy that helps influence and support the neurological and circulatory systems. It also stimulates the body's own healing processes. Muscles can be supported or relaxed by the tape.

The foundation of the Medical Taping Concept was laid in Japan and Korea in the 1970s. During this period, taping methods using elastic tape were developed there that took kinesiology (the study of movement) and knowledge of muscle activity in the human body as their starting point. The founders of Medical Taping were aware that movement and muscle activity are indispensable factors in healing and preventing physical problems.

The underlying principle is that muscles not only influence body movements but also affect, for example, blood circulation, the lymphatic system, and body temperature. Therefore, if muscles do not function properly, this can result in a wide range of complaints and symptoms. However, when malfunctioning muscles are supported with this special elastic tape, it stimulates the body's self-healing capacity. Unlike conventional taping methods, which often use non-stretchable material to restrict joint movement, this taping method actually achieves an “increase in mobility” through improved function. Furthermore, it is often used in combination with dry needling!
